A Bathing Ape or Bape (ア・ベイシング・エイプ, A Beishingu Eipu?) is a Japanese clothing company founded by Nigo (real name Tomoaki Nagao) in 1993. The company specializes in urban and hip-hop fashion, operating 33[citation needed] stores across Japan. The company also operates Bape Cuts hair salon, Bape Café and gallery, Bape Sounds records, a members-only store in Hong Kong, and boutiques in London, Taiwan and New York.
Created in 1993, A Bathing Ape (BAPE for short) is a street wear brand that originated in Japan. The label is well known for its colorful, vibrant clothing and limited edition production. Although most its boutiques are located in Japan, over the years it has expanded to other cities around the world including London, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and New York. One of their most popular items has been their hooded sweatshirts, or what most people like to call them "hoodies."
